Collectors´ Day

20. 11. 2011 | Sunday | 10.00–19.00

Within the exchange system of artist/work and collector, galleries are assigned a significant role. A visit to one of the many art fairs shows how an age of cultural complexity has long since arrived. It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of the multitude of artistic styles and positions, of new artist names appearing year for year—a phenomenon of post- modernism. Galleries can demonstrate their core competencies in this diffuse artistic milieu: a high level of know-how and ex- tensive sales efforts, conveyed through personal conversation with collectors or through publications.

Galleries are, today more than ever, navigation instruments within the artistic jungle of uncontrolled growth along the lines of “anything goes.” They provide collectors with a feel for quality beyond short-term hype. Galleries are in a place to strengthen those artistic positions they support through a sustainability of presentation, thus delivering a sense of orientation. Gallerists who pursue their profession with passion see themselves not in the role of seller but rather of consultant and dialogue partner for a collector—with the aim to, in an ideal scenario, realize the vision of an aesthetically authenticated and artistically consis- tent collection together.
